GIving and Taking

Giving and taking
The memories come and go
Giving and taking
But no one else can ever know
Giving and taking
the pain continues to grow
Giving and taking
Pull forward and let go
Giving and taking
I want to scream and cry
Giving and taking
and only I know why
Giving and taking
the ground faces the sky
Giving and taking
sometimes I think I might die
Giving and taking
the colors we see
Giving and taking
the memories received
Giving and taking
the same air we breathe
Giving and taking
be accepted or be released
Giving and taking
the children we birth
Giving and taking
the choices we deserve
Giving and taking
no mistakes made
Giving and taking
so we will be saved

Author's Note
I wrote this poem when I was in eighth grade for an english assignment while we were reading the book The Giver by Lois Lowry. I was looking through and old poetry journal of mine and found it and decided to post it. There were four poems that I had to right, but this was my favorite. I hope you guys enjoy it and maybe go read the book as well.
