mockingbird
dead mockingbirds in my pockets
hold secrets and lies
I turn the key and lock the door
so prying eyes can't peep me
peeling fingernails back one by one
is holding tight to my diaries
midnights deceive
say it will be alright
I block out the cowboy
slick Rick talking sideways
enter denial the promised land
glory, glory, hallelujah
don't talk
say your prayers
and hope no one sees your sin
the hawk lay witness to my ugliness
whispered hush girl
don't tell a soul
rivers of confessions flood me
but there is no God to save
confusion and duress are my robes
sanity snaps
I take sanctuary inside the madness
