Desperate Times
I don’t belong and never have
With familiar faces
And the comforts of home –
OR the forsaken places
That I may roam.
Angels protecting and reporting
To God
As I wander through life
Like a stray dog .
Catch me if I’m falling
Reaching for the other side –
When the Black Dog’s barking,
The fearless run and hide.
Catch me if I’m drowning
On the incoming tide.
Watching my world unravel
Right before my eyes
Maybe destiny
Until the inevitable demise.
My actions are louder
Than words of reprise –
My heart’s a fool
And the brain’s in denial,
Feels like my conscience
Is always on trial
And the weight of the pressure
Inhibits my smile.
Too late to reverse
Decisions made –
The ones that leave me
Alone and afraid,
So I’ll continue to
Roll with the punches a while.
Put on a brave face
To mask the pain,
and duck and weave attention –
I feel it’s not a shrink I need,
But a spiritual intervention.
With familiar faces
And the comforts of home –
OR the forsaken places
That I may roam.
Angels protecting and reporting
To God
As I wander through life
Like a stray dog .
Catch me if I’m falling
Reaching for the other side –
