Your sharp tongue
Was quick
And as we stood there
Like sheriff and bandit
In a town square
With many onlookers
Silently spectating,
I tried to say
We didn’t have to handle things this way.
But you had already started
Slicing through the air
In my direction
Hoping that maybe
You’d see
Some sign of weakness in me.
What you didn’t know was
Like Medusa’s gaze
Your weapon
Turned my heart to stone
And though you were
The only one of us armed,
Locked and loaded,
Spitting out dagger after dagger
You lost the fight
Before it even began.
Was quick
And as we stood there
Like sheriff and bandit
In a town square
With many onlookers
Silently spectating,
I tried to say
We didn’t have to handle things this way.
But you had already started
Slicing through the air
In my direction
Hoping that maybe
You’d see
Some sign of weakness in me.
What you didn’t know was
Like Medusa’s gaze
Your weapon
Turned my heart to stone
And though you were
The only one of us armed,
Locked and loaded,
Spitting out dagger after dagger
You lost the fight
Before it even began.
