Sorry, I Can't Lie 2

Sorry, we can’t lie,
But the pain is just too fresh
In our minds/
When everyday it seems
Another sister or mother disappears or dies/
Now I ain’t saying
Its tied to the sins of old,
But the numbers take a toll
When all we’re told is
“We’re doing our bestest/”
But is it your best,
Or just comparable to the rest/?
Because what the statistics suggests
Is a raging virus racing
To capture and eliminate our women and girls/
Hurl us back to uncertainty
Without a sense of security/
I just want my little girl
To play outside safely without having to worry
But right now, that ain’t the story
Because I can’t even give my sister
A proper burial ceremony without a body/
So, I’ll ask you,
Why can’t you see what’s so clear to me/?
I’m standing in a field
Looking out at the tragedy/
Where’s our honour? Where’s our pride/?
Everything you promised in our Treaty,
We will never see/
Because you can’t admit to these
Dark days of CDN history/ (uh)
You can’t admit to these
Dark days of CDN history
So, maybe its no mystery/
Why the reason for this controversy,
Will never be revealed/
As the wounds of old slowly become healed
We’re stricken down again,
And again, we rise with tears in our eyes/
Even though we’re not on that trail this time,
We didn’t ask for this epidemic of crime/
But through it all,
We will still survive in this nation/
Our determination is unbreakable even

CHORUS
When the Eagles are no longer flying
And the Buffalo are no longer charging
It hurts too damn much for us to testify
But we can’t let our spirits die,
So, sorry we can’t lie,
But we gotta say
Goodbye…goodbye…goodbye
Sorry we can’t lie

We can’t let our spirts die,
So sorry we can’t lie/
But nah, I’m not sorry/
Because I’m sick of seeing
A new story on the news nightly
Of another family stricken with
MMIWG tragedy/
This shit has gotten too routine,
I’m desensitized to it on my Facebook screen/
Sometimes I just wanna scream cuz
I feel like its Canada’s new national anthem/
Does anyone even care about the victims?
Who’s out looking for ‘em/?
Yo, this ain’t a racialized,
Regionalized, localized problem/
It’s also socioeconomical, political, financial/
And not to mention nationally disgracing/
There’s no way people in power can
Save face when
Girls and women are dyin’ an’ disappearin’/
Now I ain’t saying its only Indigenous mothers and daughters
Being taken,
But a graphic showing the racial demographic is sickening/
I’m standing on Parliament Hill asking
Government to acknowledge our movement
And take this epidemic seriously/
Because seriously/ I can’t handle
Being haunted by another search party halted/
Or mentally assaulted by questions without an answer/
The lack of closure brings a pain beyond measure/
Mister Prime Minister,
I know you’re a father,
So why can’t you hear our sisters cry/?

HOOK
When the Eagles are no longer flying
And the Buffalo are no longer charging
It hurts too damn much for us to testify,
But we can’t let our spirits die,
So, sorry we can’t lie,
But we gotta say
Goodbye…goodbye…goodbye
Sorry, we can’t lie

Mister Prime Minister,
I know you’re a father,
So, why can’t you hear our sisters cry/?
Tell me, what would you be willing to do
If you were in our shoes/?
Would it be front page headline news?
Would it change your views?
Would it make for the same lack of action?
I doubt it/
We’ve lived this nightmare long enough,
Enough is enough, we’re ready to wake up/
But not in the middle of the night
To the fright of an empty bed/
We’ve lived that story
And you’re still tryna say sorry/!
But if you’re serious about making amends
Put an end to this torment/
And admit to these dark days of CDN history/
Then maybe we can begin to write a new narrative
Where being an Indigenous native female
Doesn’t come with a murderous disappearance/
Mister Prime Minister,
You like to keep the appearance of female equality/
But honestly its all hypocrisy
When you see how often our Indigenous communities
Are struck by that tragedy/
So, right now we’re taking a stand/
This is our line in the sand/
We demand you extend your hand/
Help pull us to dry land
And band with us together
So, there will never be another MMIWG
Lost to the fire/!
But I’m sorry we can’t lie,
The pain is just fresh in our minds/
From broken Treaties, to Residential School atrocities,
To families being torn apart/
We’ve always played the part of enemies
In our own country/
But we will always be survivors
No matter what your throw at us,
You cannot break our spirits even

CHORUS
When the Eagles are no longer flying
And the Buffalo are no longer charging
It hurts too damn much for us to testify,
But we can’t let our spirits die,
So, sorry we can’t lie,
But we gotta say
Goodbye…goodbye…goodbye,
Sorry we can’t lie
