I Lied
You asked me, in your inebriated candour,
To explain how I thought of you, of us.
Without even a beat or pause, I lied.
I told you my appreciation of the higher, nobler things
- your honesty, your reliability, your always engaging perspective -
But for sanity’s sake, I held back the whole truth.
How to tell you that it is only in the memory of you, of us,
That I reach my climax,
Alone in the early hours?
That it is only the ghosts of your smile, your fingers,
Your tongue, your cock,
Which lead me over the precipice of my release?
This is not the life in which we are each others
So, as a kindness to us both, I lied.
