Cleansing Ecstasy: A Goodbye
I need to wash the sheets tonight.
Your scent lingers. No...our scent.
The one that our togetherness created time and time again
—just yesterday!—
subtle, unmistakable.
Carnal, cosmic proof of the one way our coupling reached near perfection.
Could I but follow its’ fragrance back to the womb and uncover how the rest of our bits might have intertwined even half as seamlessly.
Instead I’ll scour away all traces of you.
No...not of you, but of us. That I might someday close my eyes and reimagine us as but a dream.
My divine fairytale, if only between the sheets.

I think every person who reads this can relate, Rachelle. The heartbreak is palpable. 💔

Thank you for this. There is solace in the misery of company at times like these... 🙏🏽

Such resonance with this ... love how you keep going back to "us" from "you" ... so engaging ...

Thank you. Written to the person who will never read it, about an ‘us’ that is no more.

I so connected with this. The sent of a departed lover haunted my pillow long after she left.
Endeared yet tortured by its presence till I threw it away.

I still have a couple articles of clothing from
lovers long gone. I even had a hanger for a while that I couldn’t quite toss... looks like it will be Captain America socks this time, ‘cause that is what got left :0. A bit less appealing aromatically, perhaps... :).

Brava Rachelle! I like the symbolism of the cleaning of the sheets to cleanse your memory. At least the acute, visceral memory. But when it's so fantastic it would be hard to forget.

Thanks, Gahdess! So true. I agree—not possible to forget much of this one, I fear mightily. And suppose, once the pain dulls, that I may no longer want to...
Re. Cleansing Ecstasy: A Goodbye
Rather than scour it away, why not have another go & see if you can reach the perfection that was so nearly there?
Now, that is enlightenment!
(Or advice, if you wanna take or even need it or maybe I have completely misunderstood this poem as I so often do with them. I leap before reading all the comments. Now, that is advice, lol ;-))

This was the failure of the ‘another go’. :(. Sometimes, perfect lovers don’t make the right partners. No matter how much you both might want to argue the contrary.

Relatable -- though my heart was broken last year AUG
I would have spilled ink like this but at the time
I had only Facebook to share and well, I didn't want to
hurt her.
You spill emotion so well

Thank you, Tallen! I am so glad I (we?) found a place to spill it all out! Makes all the difference. ❤️

A beautifully poignant write. The scent will still linger in our memory even if we cleanse it.

Indeed. And since I have yet to even bring myself to wash the sheets, that may be a while..:)... guess even ‘must’ is relative. Thanks for the kind words and comment....

Like a moth to the flame; the flame may be removed, but eventually it reignites.
