Jealousy
From the first moment she laid
eyes on him
Beheld him for that period
of time
She held the belief they were
pre-destined
Hooked as if caught upon a
fishing line
Then later on, as she grew to
know him
It was his personality that
enthralled
His influence, like some mad
druid’s potion
Dominated all thoughts that
she recalled
She, wanting to have him
all to herself
Grew jealous of others with
whom he spoke
She wrote of him in books,
stowed on her shelf
When apart, he remained
within each pen stroke
She would never tell him
of her passion
Of her need for him, even if
she could
Nor e’er show her extent of
attraction
For he would never have
understood

Thank you kindly Brenda! As you rightly point out, volumes could be dedicated to the topic. Jealousy is a difficult emotion to contend with, and for me tends to grow with increased attachment x

Thank you Rob, It amazes me that we may still be jealous at times, even when we do not overtly declare attraction x

Oh my gosh, Velvy, what a wonderful writer you are!
That's fantastic. It's such a strong, horrible emotion, isn't it?
Great writing.
You're fantastic, my friend.
Love,
Matthew.

Thank you Lovely Matthew for the compliment! Yes it is a terrible feeling. I think it’s admirable that you’re so fantastically understanding! Love, Velvy x

Brava Velvet! Love unrequited is especially traumatic when it defies one's intuitive impressions. I agree with LDF...you portrayed the heartache superbly.

It seems to me that jealousy usually reigns in silence. You express the emotion brilliantly!

Caused me to reflect on my past. I wonder if I had expressed my love more, the one I loved would have stayed with me.

Wise words beautiful Blonde Lady. The feeling of unrequited love/jealousy (stemming from being passed over for a promotion, or believing that one’s wife is unfaithful) can lead to tragedy of Shakespearian proportions! xo
This poem is also tragic; the character is infatuated with her beloved, but too cowardly to declare her ‘love’. My inspiration was office politics between a coworker and our married boss. To be honest I wish I did not witness their buffoonery! :)
