Everyday

I am going to wake up everyday, and work on being a better me
Smile through the hard times…and dance through the difficult ones
And tell myself that it is okay to be afraid…that my tears are but temporary
That these hands still have much to do

As I stretch these old eyes out beyond the skyline, and allow the sun to kiss my skin once again
I will continue to speak my truth
Step into this world just as comfortable as I fit inside of my skin
Walk from place to place with my head looking ahead
While increasing the volume to that imaginary dial that is attached to the radio that is playing inside of my mind

I am going to wake up everyday, and work on being a better me
I am going to accept the fact that although I would love to say that black lives do matter just as much as all lives do
No life matters when there is no unified acceptance of individuality
And that I would be too much of a fool to walk blindly in a world that is so bias
Yet still everyday, I will work on being a better me
I am still going to smile and lend a helping hand
Pray and ask for strength to get through the day
Feel the aches and pains of those around me
Look into the eyes of my enemies and hope to see change in not only their lives but also in our own personal relationship
That lies between love, hate and uncertainty
I am going to wake up and pray to see another day
That I will not be laid to rest before I have had the chance to say that I am no longer the man that I was on yesterdays
