when settlers met voyagers
Many, many years ago they came to our shore.
Weary and tired they knocked on our door.
With open arms we welcomed them to our home.
They asked for water, oh we gave them food,
We showed them love and kindness,
We took them to our king and threw a great feast in their name.
Welcome to our humble abode.
Strangers they were, but we were happy to have them.
Pigmentless people we were fascinated just to who they are.
We sat and listened even when they talked in languages foreign to us.
They had fire sticks with them that made sounds of thunder.
They had large papers with drawings of the earth as if they were standing from the sky.
Soon more ships came, more voyagers came.
We the flat nose people we were still warm and welcoming.
Nkosi sikelel' Afrika Maluphakanyisw' uphondo lwayo, Yizwa imithandazo yethu, Nkosi sikelela, thina lusapho lwayo
Lord bless Africa
May her glory be lifted high
Hear our petitions
Lord bless us, your children.
This is when settlers met voyagers.
It's said that "when you house a snake the moment it gets warm it'll turn and bite you" believe me this is true.
Soon after their thirst had been quenched.
They're bellies full and bodies replenished.
They turned their fire sticks on us.
They enslaved us,
Segregated us, separated us.
Uit die blou van onse hemel,
Uit die diepte van ons see,
Out of the blue of our heavens
Out of the depths of our seas.
They took our kindness as weakness.
They took our warm welcome as opportunity.
Where we saw man, they saw beasts.
Where we offered peace, they replaced it with violence and bloodshed.
Soon we were prisoners of our land.
This is when settlers met voyagers.
Weary and tired they knocked on our door.
With open arms we welcomed them to our home.
