Interesting - my immediate perspective was thinking of the tens of thousands who have been 'disappeared' by numerous regimes all over the world - and still continuing. Also the violence done to their loved ones who will never know 'what happened' nor, most cases, have a body to bury and come to closure. In that sense those 'left behind' feel it on the inside as you noted.
