The buggers screwed with Easter too...
or so the rabbit said...
Ripped off the Pagan Planting Rites...
claimed Jesus rose from dead...instead.
So eggs and rabbits are the remnants...
the proof that cocks get bunnies pregnant.
The Pagan faithful still divine... the forest

Ely... not a theologist here...and not of either of the above Faiths discussed in the poem.. just an observer of humanity, culture and religion... so my two cents...
i've noticed the influence of the local culture at times overrriding the religion both foreign and well freshly local... your poem made me think, reminded me of my observation of the overlap of the above two..i.e. culture and religion where sometimes the culture is what was once part of the old religion lives on across faiths...

Yes... that is how it is here... in some places more than others... fetishes abound...representing all parts of the body and in some cases, events... these are to protect the bearer...in some small villages where the old religion lies closer to the surface... practice of the old ways is still around.
By the way... México does not allow religion to mess with politics... unlike the lip service given in the good ol' US of A.

Nicely put - true religions are all 'earth-based' - who needs an 'off-planet' god? - Mother earth is 'god', an amazing self-healing abundant provider - if only we would co-operate with her instead of believing we can do it better with technology.

True... even sustainable technology
has more than a little potential for a downside or two....
like wind power and bird-life...
The kids are doing wonders nowadays... inventing way to clean the seas.... conquer disease... make power from the most unlikely place...
There is still hope yet... if the stupid get in the WH today ever moves his lardy-arse out of the way... Ely
