Where Have All the Corduroys Gone? (America)

Corduroys
Aren’t the only thing
Giving
A faint heartbeat,
(I just couldn’t find any in the stores this season)
Cashiers are
Imperceptible
Skeletal,
(Stores are running
Themselves)
So you have to
Wait in line
To spend
“Your money”
As if, the
Long standing=
Names (JCP)
Closing=
Weren’t enough;
Empty lots
Depreciating=
The Neighborhoods
Physique,
And with the
Dark roads
Up head
People are
Using=
Their house lights
To offset
The street lights
(None in the country
I guess you call it)
That aren’t there
For cars
(If ya ask me)
In even
Townships
With an “average”
Sounding it out/
Squinting it out-
(Median
Household
Income
Of $100,000; easy)
Welcome to the future.

(Sitting here looking
All crazy; for real
Got in late; forced to go
To the mall for corduroys; -
2 pairs were good enough
And I was lucky to get
Those- kohls)

{And nobody gives a damn}
Welcome to the future.
