The wedding photographer
is divorced twenty years;
knows first-hand all marriages
are not made in heaven
Prays nonetheless
each photograph will remain
a joyful memory-
perhaps even an anniversay
Yet, also knows
despite what happens
there can be a happy ending

Just so you know, Todski, you're special to us both for that very reason. Thank you, friend. 💕

I like this - handles a troubling truth really well.
Re 'happy ever after' this is our approach:
"THE SPACE IN BETWEEN (a gogyoshi)
There are three of us in our relationship -
me, her and the space-in-between
to which we are both committed
to keep clean, leaving us both free
to see - and be seen."
... of course sometimes keeping the in-between space clean becomes unattainable but I reckon it's a worthwhile aim ... with renewed happy beginnings. :))

Exactly, Josh. Complete freedom to be oneself. In the words of a great master:
"Let the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup. Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf. Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone, Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music. Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping. For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts. And stand together, yet not too near together: For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow."
~ Khalil Gibran, The Prophet
On Marriage
Everytime I shoot a wedding, I gift the above to the bride and groom. I can only pray they stand the test of time beyond the honeymoon.

Thank you for the great quote from Gibran, Ahavati - and what a nice gift to give too, to newlyweds. :))

Every man and woman should own a copy of 'The Prophet' Josh. It's readable in one sitting, and contains Gibran's wisdom on Love, Marriage, etc.

Re. The wedding photographer
lovely poem,
a photograph captures a moment in time
but alas
time rarely allows its moments to last
(but sometimes it does)

What I really like about this piece
is that there is so much unspoken
but that doesn't make your poem
a generalization (that's the key!)
you say just enough
I like how the photographer
making an observation
through a camera lens
just as the poet
filters the experience
there is more to this poem
than meets the eye
it is very subtle
easy for some to overlook
but in substance it is very rich.

Thank you for your time and thoughts - they are greatly appreciated. it's difficult to photograph them sometimes - you can only hope that it all goes as planned . . . but you an also have faith that even if that plan isn't what you wish for them, it's still their plan regardless of direction.
