Tears As Portals To Visions
Compacted in a twinkle of joy
a life-time of searching for the Holy Well
delivered its final beginning ... and
without rushing in to grab my inheritance
I savoured the moment for as long
as time would stretch. Removing the cap
from my pen I wrote down the first of many thirsts
and watched my tears grow into a river.

I like it, Josh... most apropos... for all it's brevity, it says a lot... love how it builds to the conclusion. Kudos... Ely

This is poignant in its message, Josh.
One thing, did you mean the form to be prosey?

I can't say I meant it to be 'prosey' (which might mean something different in my head than other interpretations). When I write in unstructured form I don't actually have much sense where lies the dividing line between 'prose' and 'poetry'. But it's an interesting question. Thank you.

Thank you for commenting dizzzzzzy. All I can say is that I didn't meet poetry as "my thing" until I'd turned 50 - and after many false starts. :))

I mean life on earth is a tough assignment. And we journey in it through trial and error. That means we experience many trials and many errors. But eventually something 'clicks'.

The idea of tears growing into a river is so beautiful!
I felt drawn to the same title, but nothing came...
You wrote a short, but very powerful poem, bravo!

Thank you Duende - that last line was in my head first whenever I thought of my relationship to poetry - and the 'miracle' experience of words popping 'out of nowhere' into one's head - so I had a sense of where it was all heading.

And where would that be?
There's only 1 direction of where it was heading.
Wanting truth....that's it........

Thanks Babajava - the title was given in the comp "instructions" so no credit to me for that - I just kind of followed the thought it provoked in me. :))

I love this, especially ‘the final beginning’.. makes me think of that moment when I first felt connected to something deeper and felt safe... The final beginning, when you’ve grasped something about life that changes your journey for the remainder of life

"the final beginning" - Absolutely my meaning too; you've articulated the experience really well. Thank you for the comment.
