When You Try to Replace Me

Your deft and quick hands that are working
To get rid of layers upon layers of clothing
That are in between us. It is your smirking

Smile because you know everything going
On underneath this tough human surface.
My lack of self-confidence that is growing

Into open fields of sunflowers. You traced
Every scar and every imperfection across
Roadmaps of my skin. You have replaced

Me with someone else now. It is your loss
When you know she is not going to be me in
Your head, but when you throw and toss

Me like I am yesterday’s trash you will sin
As much as I do one day. You will realize
That I will be lingering wherever your skin

Touches. When that huge part of you dies
I will not be there in the darkest hour and
Help you recognize your big mistake. I rise

Above although I do not fully understand
Why you chose to do that to me with no
Clear closure in sight, but I will not stand

Here, feigning happiness for you. I know
That it was supposed to be me, but there
Is nothing to do. On my own terms I grow.
