on Euthanasia
It's a dicey subject...
right up there with abortion
and a woman's right to choose
Naturally... as with all of that ilk...
the bloody-minded "Religious"
do not allow for freedom from religion
Rather... they blunder on...with the mindless persistence of a fly
to torment those who...
do not believe as they do
right up there with abortion
and a woman's right to choose
Naturally... as with all of that ilk...
the bloody-minded "Religious"
do not allow for freedom from religion
Rather... they blunder on...with the mindless persistence of a fly
to torment those who...
do not believe as they do

Right on, Tim... it should be
up to the...
individual... 'right to life', works in both directions.
A rational person should have the right to choose... Ely

To the religious "fervor", you should add the state of the "health care" business that won't let you die until every penny of medical procedures is exhausted.
Very nice write!

Thank you, Takis....delighted that you find the piece worthy of praise... I value your opinion.
Excellent point you raise about the 'health care' business... that's what is wrong with it... to my mind, at least... too much treating of symptoms and not enough on getting to the root of the problem...
Too many hospitals that are too damn hung up on their bloody bottom line... Ely

Many angles to this one. I wouldn't want that decision in the hands of the state though. We are still under eugenics, they just call it bioethics nowadays. They might decide one day that the poor need to be reliefed from their misery once and for all. Other than that I am of course in favour of people deciding for themselves.

The state should have nothing to do with it... except to deter those who would prey on the vulnerable... and they WILL crawl out of the woodwork at the smell of money...
The decision, however, should be up to the individual...Ely

Well done for taking a poetic plunge into this 'dicey' topic.
"to torment those who...
do not believe as they do..."
Sometimes, with the reverting back to fundamentalism, I find it hard to believe we're in the 21st century.
A few years ago I wrote a little ditty as follows:
He was so sure his views were right
and everyone else's were wrong
he stood on the street corner
rattling a tin
to fund a mental list. :)

Josh... Did you purposely pun that last line? It's a beaut! Ely

Cool poem! I don't often read political pieces, so this was refreshing. It says you're looking for critique, so I wonder if the lines would come off stronger without the ellipses. Great stuff overall.

You're right about the ellipsis... I do overdo... I prefer the tilde that sits atop the N in espaŅol but Spanish keyboard will not a llow same, so I use ellipses instead.
I wrote the poem in the form of three Senryu, and I use the ellipsis there... but admittedly there are more there than need be. I shall remove the rest... thanks, I appreciate your input. Ely
