Cobalt Blue
Starry Starry Night
how hard you fuel
their fiery soul;
blue-black backdrop
a feathered crow
glimmering in the moon;
One hundred thousand
million stars, unspooled
amid a fabric bolt
of endless cobalt blue
Starry Starry Night
how your brush
ensnaring space
swirls across a canvas
blank, capturing
what can't be caught
One hundred thousand
million strokes, in unison
create our view
in endless cobalt blue
Starry Starry Night
how your blood
did flow forthright
how the hand gun
stained the wood
falling from your grip
One hundred thousand
million drops, flooded red
the delta of your wound
from arterial cobalt blue. . .

Uhmmmm .... this has a dreamy lyrical quality. I likes it a lot. 🌟✨😏🌠🌜
And I can likewise visualize the natural blue tint in the crow's feathers as well.

That's always been one of my favorite colors. 🎨 The indescribable metalic so-black-it's-blue.
Thank you kindly, Sir.

This is simply beautiful. I love the painting AND the song, so I'll now add your poem to my collection as well.
Thank you.
Thank you.

One of my favourite colours. It transmits peace, serenity, hope and joy. It is the colour of dreams. Lovely ink. J

Thank you, Juvenalis.
Blue is a paradox of peaceful cold. I'm happy it resonated.

Dreamy yet strong, light yet deadly serious ... a great mix of senses stirred. Love it.

I love well-done, descriptive, metaphor-heavy cosmic pieces; this certainly fits the bill. You made me think of starry night before I read the inspiration line, so very well done.
I had a feeling there was more you could have said with this, as if it ended somewhat abruptly (the handgun line piqued my interest right before the end); was there more? Or was this intentional mystery?
Either way, I’m hooked. I’ll definitely be following your work :)

It's very interesting you should mention that. There's always been debate as to whether or not Van Gogh shot himself or was shot by someone else. So, yes, I wanted to end on an open note for now, but a final stanza is brewing and will undoutedly develop once I have direction.
I've edited to reflect an ellipses ending.
Welcome to DUP. Thanks for the comment. Much appreciated.

Splendid write Ahavati.
"a feathered crow
glimmering in the moon" -takes me to old Disney with heckle and jeckel the crows, and allpoetry.com's raven.
" the delta of your wound "- one of the best lines I've read all week (and I've been reading randall jarrell and john berryman.)
well penned ma'am.

Whether or not it was intentional, I enjoyed the reference to "feathered crow" as this brought to mind that painting by van Gogh of crows over the wheat field and crossroads. And I enjoyed the variations in the repetitions of the line "... cobalt blue".
Is the ellipsis still hinting at another stanza?

Hey thanks. Yes, totally intentional reference to how blue the feathered sheen of a crow appears under light.
I loved Van Gogh's wheat field paintings - they're my favorite of his. The time he spent at the Saint-Paul asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence ( I think they've since renamed it after him ), were some of the most cathartic, imho. Of course I have an affinity for the Provence, particularly Saint Paul de Vence. It's a healing place - as Marc Chagall discovered, and is buried there, in fact. A place where everything is art, perse.
Yes; the final ellipses indicate an uncertainty, being we really don't know if he was shot, or shot himself. It's pure speculation, so I couldn't end it.
Thanks again.

I did not know about the speculation over his death. The Don McLean song is good, as are several on his AmericanPie album: crossroads, winterwood and empty chairs.

Indeed. I was living in England when that one came out. Created a home sickness of sorts for the states.
