Image for the poem desert rose

desert rose

a faraway breeze carried you from my side
I saw you leave and whispered wait, don't go
you didn't hear my protests

I held my heart tight
it threatened to follow where you had gone
but there was no room for me

so I fought my passion
biting my lip
and keeping my desires to myself

your love light glows afar off
she sparkles in the distance
so go you must

I smile inside myself
knowing you are happy
you were never mine anyways

just an infatuation
a blooming desert rose
for this weary traveler

masculine but tender is your night shine
the winds of fate gave me your friendship
it's something of value
something I highly prize
