I remember once I sat at a tea parlor....a new trendy place in town where people could sit and drink exotic teas, even the fine Japanese green powder. The presentation was very traditional. There was a table with 4 people, who sat quietly bowing their heads. I thought they were having a tea ceremony, so I watched quietly until I realized they were staring at their tablets. It is sad how people unlearn to communicate and engage in conversations face to face. Oh, and the neck pain.......!

Thank you so much Angel! When I first conceived the poem I thought maybe this is a way too clichéd topic but then I considered that it was a worthwhile observation. It is indeed a sad state of affairs. Thank you for the further illustration of the phenomenon.

People with smartphones are oblivious to their surroundings.  Their loss.  There is nothing like an actual face-to-face encounter, not communicating via what is as much a toy as a tool.  Fine lines, Gahdess!  

Thank you Sir Crow! That is a fine line that I am now pondering in regard to my own usage. Mine is mostly a listening device for podcasts, music, and audio books...oh and, of course DUP.

Ugh, this is too true! Nicely conveyed, as the word "smartphone" is a bit of a smack after the ethereal-sounding opening.
It is a strange addiction, and most of us seem to fall prey at one time or another.  Resistance has to be intentional, I find.

Awww, but IBM was a forerunner in the computer business back when, which is what the smartphone is today.
So, maybe coincidence, or could it be subliminal entrenching?  Hmmmm!
