sunflower days
the sunflowers dot the dusty fields
giving relief to my aching mind
I see them smiling at the sun
sending praises on the wind
they are a needed relief
because it's hot outside
and my body swelters
slick with perspiration
it's so much like the desert
in this little California town
as the Hawks make lazy circles
riding the thermal currents
I watch them and my tension
eases out of my body
the kits are at play out back
in the overgrown cornfields
I'm thinking of drinking a beer
to slow down my racing thoughts
it's an easy pace out here
but the boredom
sometimes makes my imagination
a little overactive
it's small town country life
the sunflowers are in the fields
singing praises
I'm drinking a beer
while sitting back
dreaming
