My Poetry?
As a poet, must I choose one path
to follow? Either sacred, or profane?
If not, then shall I dare to risk the wrath
of those whose sensibilities get strained?
Are my poems art, or entertainment?
Or perhaps, might they be something more?
The act of writing poems is most ancient,
predating everything, but sex and war!
I sit, and drink my brandy, as I ponder
who, the hell, it is I’m writing for?
I think of all the hours that I squander,
would they be better spent on booze and whores?
Such questions are best left for greater brains,
It’s me my poetry must entertain!

Most people who write, do so for themselves.
Others, write to right the wrongs of those who can’t seem to write their own stories.
There is no right or wrong, just shades of everything in between, those two end points.
I hope you find solace in writing, for you !

I write whatever comes to mind in the moment...sometimes it is profound, sometimes funny, sometimes dark...it's all good. I think, to write for oneself is probably the most free form of writing. I like freedom, but I also like to connect with people. Maybe when I am most connected with myself is when my poems connect best with others.
I see you lately giving us more variety of you. I like that. Something for everybody and still you. It's all good.
I like you bringing up the question in a well written piece.

I would say your poems are both art and entertainment, which is difficult to pull off effectively. You do so, and with style. Excellent!
