Painting the Darkness (Daphne reborn)
I wonder at the meeting you've in mind:
Has it been painted in your head for days?
Do all the brush strokes you've perfected find
Me ready for you with a hundred plays?
I wonder at the artistry you'd share:
Would you let me be represented nude?
And would you mix the pastels, so I'm bare
On canvas and our embrace is quite crude?
I wonder if those people in your life:
Would find my reaching out to wrap you in
The arms that you have painted sense that strife
Is easily abated, when my skin
Is so perfectly coloured; it will sing
A hymn to honour you at our meeting.

thank you - parallels to Petrarch will make me blush - but I do like the verse form he created very much

Reading this wonderful piece made me wonder whether it would be valid to state that the artistic value of a painting is directly proportionate to its ability to make love to its creator at will.
Very intriguing and intelligent poem!

I hadn't thought of that comparison - but you are right - another leaf updated

Lovely work, SweetOblivion. This is an imaginative original, maybe with a touch of Dorian Gray (cited by bcpoet) and Pygmalion. You're one of a kind, and a marvelous poet.

I must refresh my knowledge of myths and legends - so much raw material for future verses - smiles

Reminds me of the legend of Pygmalion who fell in love with the female statue he created.

I knew there was a legend like that - I just could not think it through so contented myself with Daphne and her tree flee.
