Pier not your Peer

You treat me like a pier not your peer
A seagull calls loudly and you instantly forget that I am there
I am as thick as a plank of wood - I let you walk all over me to get somewhere good or at least better than me
I take all the the weight to let you have a pretty view of the sea
I carry you to the shiny kiosks so you can taste the delights of sweets
Pretty lights guide you to the amusements arcade to keep you entertained
You are oblivious to the fact that I am starting to buckle under the strain
An umbrella shakes to protect you from the wind and rain
I am stuck out in all weathers
Wooden structures like our relationship cannot last forever
You will break me in half and I will only leave you with a splinter
I will never recover and you will quickly get better
I am your lover today but will be a piece of driftwood tomorrow floating in a sea of self-pity and sorrow
