SADJOY (February 1989, North Park, San Diego, California)
standing outside here tonight
under these dense low hanging
gray white cotton bottomed clouds
of this cold now darkened february sky above
i sense and feel
but still cant quite tell
more clearly discern
nor fully realize just yet
here in this sudden self reflective moment
the fine line difference clearer distinction between
my inner sadness and joy
for their subtle unseen hidden borders within
presently seem somewhat blurred and vague
just out of my reach
but maybe perhaps
if the sun shines through
these cloudy skies tomorrow
hopefully i ll be a lot more likely
to better discern
and know more clearly

The title caught my eyes more than anything here as I lived in North Park for nearly 16 years!!! University Avenue and Utah St. -- every year I got to see the Toyland Parade from my balcony ;)

Wow, thanks for connecting with me through your comment here Tallen. I lived in North Park for only around 4 1/2 years, twice in the same place on Texas street just off University (& just up the hill above the Jack Murphy Stadium/San Diego Sports Arena), then I lived over on 32nd st. & University & lastly I lived over on 37th street, a few blocks away from Morley Field Park!
I lived, worked & 'played' there from around 1987-1991, so there is 'some' possibility that you & I may have even 'crossed paths' &/or met during that time, but I seldom ever could remember names (both back then & now), but only & almost always faces! So this many years & decades later, I doubt I could even remember your face if I saw it now & there's just as much, if not even more possibility that we never 'crossed paths' or met, but because of the very unexpected & sudden news from you here on DUP, from reading my old poem, that you too lived during the same years I was living there, makes it an almost irresistable, spontaneous fantasy that perhaps we still possibly may have at some point, esp. if you were anywhere within ten years of my age at that time & if you had occasioned any of the many places & areas that I frequented all over the North park neighborhood, the rest of San Diego & all over the surrounding county, both coastal & inland areas!?! Which I can't help but think of & imagine, because those years & the whole ten years I first moved from Texas (in my early 20's & 30's) to live for a decade in Southern California, working, surfing & totally exploring & hedonistically over-indulging in & fully enjoying my young, free spirited & wildly adventurous life, left me with so many countless good & great memories, that it's no wonder , after reading your comments here, that I'd automatically want & like to think & believe, that perhapsyou too might have been any one of the countless hundreds or thousands of other similarly adventurous young men & uniquely interesting people I had met & gotten to know to different degrees & in a myriad of various & equally interesting ways (!!!), because those were some of the most excitingly wonderful & most fulfillingly memorable, truly golden years of my younger life!!! So glad you stumbled into my old North Park poem & chose to share your intriguingly relative (& fairly rare!?!) connection to it & me here! I'm presently still living back here in Southern California (in Palm Springs & the desert now for 12 years), after having left San Diego back in 1991 & moving back to my home state (& my family) of Texas for 17 too long years, before finally fleeing & escaping the Lone Star State again for the 2nd time in my life to move back & live, thrive & flourish more wonderfully here in California! I don't know whether or not you too are still living here in California (San Diego or some other state?), but if you are, I'll close here by just saying that you are someone I'd enjoy meeting-up with for coffee at a STARBUCKS Reserve, like the one we have here in Palm Springs, just to get to reminisce more, share memoried stories & talk about living in North Park, San Diego & Southern California & life itself back then in the 80's here!!! Man, your simple text comment here on DUP, sure opened up a HUGE box of, completely unexpected, long forgotten, great memories for me here!!! So thanks again for stirring them up from their nearly 30 years limbo of sleep!

I am very familiar with where You were living.
Near there in a strip mall there's my favorite
sushi place - a hole in the wall -- with the best
prices, food and staff! Sorry can't remember the
name of the place.
I used to work at a retail print center in Mission Valley just off Texas St after going over the freeway overpass.

Howdy Tallen,Sorry for such a very long delay(some years later!!!) in my accidentally & only just now finding your last text comments to me here, but better late than never I suppose, but after re-reading your text's, I feel & believe that I know the little 'hole in the wall' (but still usually very crowded & popular) favorite Sushi spot in that nearby small strip mall, which was named 'ICHIBAN'...(?!?). Great staff, great, huge selection, fast service & great, traditional Sushi, Sashimi, etc. I myself ate there at least 4 or 5 times every week, during the 4 & 1/2 yr.s I lived there in North Park, esp. after a long day at work or after a long day of surfing, when I'd be far too tired &/or surfed-out, to feel like cooking my dinner at home for myself! Thanks again for stirring up the nostalgic pot on some of my fondest memories, which I otherwise might possibly have never even thought of or remembered again, if I had not read your initial two texts here, back when you 1st sent them to me & now here once again some 4+ yr.s later! Even just texting you about it here again today, I can still taste. smell, hear & see the place, almost as clearly as if I were actually there now! lol ☀️😎👍🏻
