Memory Stained Walls

pulling in the driveway
after a long day at work
my smile no longer existing

turn my head to look at you
what a beautiful smile you always had
but your no longer beside me

sidewalk seems longer than usual
no light shinning thru windows
just darkness as I turn the key

heart trembling with emotions
legs shaking almost from under me
as I step into our empty house

no memories hanging on walls
just stains where they once hung
teardrops echo off emptiness

only my footsteps walk hardwood floors
where laughter from happiness used to play
loneliness roams every room

I whisper.....”good night luv” as I close my eyes
cracking of my heart breaking intrudes upon silence
cold blankets are all that hug me
