new breath

I thought I needed you
like the beating of my own heart
I let you be the ink in my veins
and you gave me a voice
when the world wanted my silence

I didn't know then
that you were just a vessel
for me to find the orchestra
of my own dyslexic symphony
that only sounds like music
when the decebels are set to scream

Did you know that I'm more
than white noise in the dark?
I didn't know I could be more than static
until I learned to embrace
your unending radio silence

'Cause I miss the memory of your voice
the memory of your laughter
the memory of the way we used to be
but I don't miss you anymore

Because I don't need you
like the beating of my own heart
I just needed you to leave
so I could hear the way I sound
when I breathe
