Box At The Foot Of My Bed.
“The night is nothing to fear!”
My beloved, sweet mother said
"No evil hides in the darkness"
"No bogeyman under your bed"
But then she's never seen
And I pray, never will
My deepest, dark secret
Which I keep close still
In a box that's kept locked
At the foot of my bed
The sweetest of prizes
Just one severed head
In the cupboard, I’ve kept it
The top shelf, just out of sight
But it’s so hard for a lone child
To hold and admire at night
Sometimes I hear my sweet mother
As she stifles her sobs in the dark
Since my father, he upped and he left us
Shouting, “I’d rather live in the park!”
But what she doesn't see is he’s closer
Closer and cold as the dead
For my father's head is the sweet prize
In the box at the foot of my bed
