Trust
Can you trust those with wings
Who promise to carry you away with shiny things
Over oceans and mountains
And all the space between
Can you trust those with hands
Who promise to hold you across faraway lands
Never letting go of the rush
Always holding tight as they can
The windows are grey with soot, so much that I can’t see out
Can’t see past the dark and the hurt
And is there no one here to trust
Is there no one here to tell
Can you trust those with strength
Who promise to keep pain at arm’s length
Using muscle to push away
All the things from your path
Can you trust those with knowledge
Who promise to help you over the ridge
Pulling you forward into the sun
So you can see what’s beyond the bridge
The windows are grey with soot, so much that I can’t see out
Can’t see past the dark and the hurt
And is there no one here to trust
Is there no one here to tell
Can you trust those with power
Who promise above all else to come down from their tower
Wandering among the weary
Giving hope to those who cower
Can you trust those with nothing
Who can only offer the promise of spring
Showing the way, lighting the path
Begging you to trust only this
The windows have started to lighten, If I try harder I can see the sky
See past the decaying dragons of the past
Seeing the faces of those who want me to trust
Saying they’ll listen to all I have to tell
Who promise to carry you away with shiny things
Over oceans and mountains
And all the space between
Can you trust those with hands
Who promise to hold you across faraway lands
Never letting go of the rush
Always holding tight as they can
The windows are grey with soot, so much that I can’t see out
Can’t see past the dark and the hurt
And is there no one here to trust
Is there no one here to tell
Can you trust those with strength
Who promise to keep pain at arm’s length
Using muscle to push away
All the things from your path
Can you trust those with knowledge
Who promise to help you over the ridge
Pulling you forward into the sun
So you can see what’s beyond the bridge
The windows are grey with soot, so much that I can’t see out
Can’t see past the dark and the hurt
And is there no one here to trust
Is there no one here to tell
Can you trust those with power
Who promise above all else to come down from their tower
