Image for the poem Midnight Gavotte

Midnight Gavotte

Silence in the chateau halls
Shadows shaping on the walls
Figures from inglorious past
Knew the revels would not last

One shade takes me by the hand
The silence broken by a starlight band
Alive enough to take a chance
I let her lead me in a courtly dance

It then comes as some surprise
When I see desire light her eyes
The scent of roses on her breath
A way of life, the taste of death.
