Wildflowers

I see you running in the night
fighting the moon, hiding from the light
but darling I know you
each thorn on your stem
your petals tattered, your leaves bent
do not fear the rains that flood
do not shield yourself from the sun
because darling we know, we don’t dwell in the garden
because someday I know, you’ll grow even stronger
under the trees, beside the rocks
if they know where to look, they’ll find us
because darling, we’re more than weeds
you and I, are wildflowers
