#ME TOO
"Me too"
moves forward.
We can finally speak our truth and be heard.
Let go of the shame we were made to carry
by guilty phrases
whispered in dirty words
as you shrugged off your responsibility
to be more than just baser instinct,
animalistic...
then said WE couldn't handle the pressure
of better jobs
at higher pay.
Why did we ever BELIEVE you?
We work under more pressure
than you can fathom
just shouldering the weight
of your consequences.
Me too rings true in the young girl
who knows from our cries that
NO!
is not an opinion or plea,
or a luxury,
but a demand!
A right long taken
by stronger hands.
It's a wall
you need to stop trying
to push your way around.
Me too says
that we didn't dress for you.
I didn't plan what I wore
by the degree of RAPE
I was looking for.
It's time to acknowledge that
fishnet stockings
do not hold an open invitation.
Nor is a slit skirt or plunging neckline
unspoken consent.
Window dressing doesn't mean
what's in the store is free.
Nor do we OWE you any pleasure
for our company;
no matter how much you paid for dinner.
Me too
is an outstretched hand from my sister
who was also abused
by some mister.
She like me cried
in the dark aftermath
trying to put her pieces together,
and didn't dare speak out because her voice would be
smothered.
Hot showers don't wash away the
handprints
and the memories will always remain
thick
on our skin.
You stand
with your dick in your hand
and your finger pointed at me,
walking away with your deed on replay
while the judgment is laid at my feet!?
Why should it be
the microscope is turned on ME?!
Even a dog can be trained
not to take a treat.
Me too is a stand!
Hand in hand
our voices in strength will grow
until a change is made to the status quo.
The bits and pieces you take from our souls
won't stand anymore!
The world can no longer deny
this IS a problem!
Your lies
and lack of responsibility
finally losing momentum.
The time has come to change
what you believe it means
to be a man.
All this time
with no one who will understand;
when too many understand.
I've poured my heart out in my tears,
but no one's ears
because I'm still not strong enough
to see my mother's heart break
over the things I've been through.
All alone until this sudden chorus of
"ME TOO!"
moves forward.
We can finally speak our truth and be heard.
