To Fall
I'm thinking of all the things
I never did
And never will
Life keeps breaking my heart
Pieces falling to the ground
As I push through the shattered forest
And think of the days
I was free to wander the night.
I howl at the moon,
Making the crisp air sing
With haunted notes of reverie
Cold thoughts dancing
between timid trees
Dreams stretch downward
into the depths of the deep
Inching through the centuries
Gasping to breathe the frozen sky
Through the clenched teeth
Of fading leaves waiting to fall
I never did
And never will
Life keeps breaking my heart
Pieces falling to the ground
As I push through the shattered forest
And think of the days
I was free to wander the night.
I howl at the moon,
Making the crisp air sing
With haunted notes of reverie
Cold thoughts dancing
between timid trees
Dreams stretch downward
into the depths of the deep
Inching through the centuries
Gasping to breathe the frozen sky
Through the clenched teeth
Of fading leaves waiting to fall
