Science Before There Was Science

Experimentation is fairly synonymous with science.        
People in ancient times experimented by eating plants untried heretofore.        
They tried cooking various types of roots.        
The roots that weren't edible were discarted.        
Thru trial and error we have built up a menu inclusive      
of the many kinds of potatoes and carrots that we have today.        
         
Early humans started out with nothing but thru experimentation      
 -- science,you could say   --  today, we have fabulous foods of every kind.        
         
Early man tried chewing the grains of many kinds of weeds.        
Wheat started out as a mere weed.        
But look at what it has turned into:          
By grinding the grains into flour, we were able to turn it into      
pasta or bread, cakes, pies, puddings, donuts --- oh the glory of it all !!      
   
Milk wouldn't keep so our ancient ancestors experimented til they
 figured out how to salvage it in the form of a variety of cheeses,    
improving on the original commodity.    
FOOD -- the great variety of it, is one of mankind's greatest achievements !!!        
 All that experimentation paid off.      
You could call it a form of science before there was science.      

PS: since the men were the hunter-gatherers,
it may have fallen to the women to be the farmers and
food experimenters -- the earliest scientists.
