From the Ghetto
These low income kids need more motivation
My teachers don’t know the problems we are facing
I am not a rich privileged girl I am a chicana, raised in the ghetto type of girl
Let me take you inside of my world
Just next to my house is where the gangsters meet
If you say something wrong
They’re quick to leave you dead in the street
Graffiti and gang signs is all you see on the walls
If you take a walk and hear shots
You wouldn’t want to be in deep
Cops can stop you just because they can
People like us, do you really think they give a damn?
My brother is always getting stopped by a white man
They tell him “Put your hands over your head”
Any sudden movement and he is for sure dead
In the night the guns are pulled
Gang enemies coming over
Looking for problems up to no good
The street rules are in place like it would
Gun shots and sirens are playing in the background of my hood
Poverty makes times even more rough
I didn’t get no new kicks for Christmas
I guess it’s just my luck
I have faith in God that I will get out of being stuck
I have decided I have had enough...

The key to getting out... is education ! 💡
Pursue education throughout life, and the world becomes your oyster.
Once you become degree qualified, never look back and keep moving forward.
Wishing you all the best because you deserve nothing but the best ! 🌞🦋🌹😎🎈🌈

Well expressed. I always find it amazing to read about people’s lives from their perspective and I think you really captured what your life is like because as a reader I was really intrigued. Great stuff :-)

Excellent write Chicana. splendid imagery of you neighborhood you painted, and the feeling of shakedowns by the cops.
i can see the gang tags strung up all over the hood and i know the feeling of rising up out of poverty all too well.
well penned feelings and ideas, keep'em coming.

Hey I feel you on this. Just gotta do you and stay optimistic. Keep writing and get a degree. Gangs will always be there, there will always be dick cops. But you can rise above it. Shit, I grew up in an extension of Chicago. I'm white and cops still fucked with me and my friends all the time, for skating, sitting in a park...etc. Throwing us against squad cars and breaking our shit, laughing cuz... what are we gonna do about it. Power corrupts. But intelligence ushers change. Our time will come.

I'm reading "The Hate U Give" ... the author Alice Thomas came up with the title from Tupac's infamous THUG LIFE motto .. T-he - H-ate - U - G-ive L-ittle - I-nfants F-ucks E-verybody ...
... grab a copy of the book if you can, I think you'll enjoy it, and definitely relate to the female character

As someone who grew up in the hood and still lives in the hood I truly can resonate with this poem.
I admire this
