Scream

   
my anxiety  
changes faces  
& screams  
   
with its six heads  
that bite,  
screeching loudest  
when i feel my lowest  
   
uses a dagger of fear  
on my most tender spots  
   
a jab here, a jab there  
until i'm holding my sides  
on the floor reeling  
   
to hide from this monster  
is of no use  
   
it gets high taking  
the Xanax prescribed,  
then after it wears off  
comes for me double time  
   
with threats    
& what ifs  
of a shaky tomorrow  
   
with defiance i shout  
   
"get out!"  
   
"you won't use    
your razor tongue on me"  
   
leave me slashed  
& bleeding  
on the inside screaming
