What Is The Difference Between George Washington And Me??
The pastor at the church I used to attend had the nerve to single me out at the Wednesday Bible Study as a "lawbreaker."
I had set fire to an abortion clinic and served 16 years in prison before becoming a member of that church.
The preacher that night must have been teaching a lesson about the role of the government in society and the Christian duty to obey the government.
This old backwoods preacher claimed I was wrong to put the lives of babies above the obeying of the law.
Yet he had the nerve to claim that if he had lived in the time of the American Revolution he would have been on the side of George Washington.
No, you would NOT have, I told him to his face.
You would have been Tory, a loyalist to King George the 3rd.
For Washington was breaking the law when he fought against the king's army and actually killed the soldiers doing the king's bidding.
Old Rev. Steve didn't appreciate that opinion.
He soon invited me to attend other church, telling me that I didn't come to learn from him -- like I was supposed to.
Rather, I came only to share my ideas,
which of course was wrong, for I had not been to seminary. Like him.
Anyway, back to the issue at hand.
What is the difference between Washington breaking the law, which was ok, according to Rev Steve.
And me, breaking the law, which was wrong, according to Rev Steve.
Steve explained that King George deserved to be overthrown, as far as his rulership over the American colonies is concerned, on the basis of his government preventing Christians from worshipping God freely.
That was news to me.
I had never heard that rationale before.
Steve continued, "But in your case, you lacked any legit basis for destroying property - the abortion clinic.
For the government doesn't deprive you of freedom of religion -- when it allows women to have abortions."
Try to realize what the old seminary student is saying here.
This present government has facilitated the taking of 50 million lives of fetuses, yet it is much better than King George's
"Tyrannical" government.
That's Steve's idea, not mine.
My view is that the colonials revolted mainly because of "taxation without representation."
And the amount of taxes was minuscule
compared to what we face today.
I feel my action was at least as justified as Washington's.
Like I have already said, Steve would have been a Tory if he had lived at the time of the American Revolution.
If he knew where Washington or any other patriot was hiding, he would have informed the authorities --
Especially if a reward was offered.
That's my take on Judas Iscariot --
I mean ol' Steve Conwell.
