Pewter and Gold
Your reflection was on the water
and the morning sun shown gold
around your head
I made my intentions clear enough to me
but not clear enough for you
apparently
but was it ever enough anyways?
And so I watched you glow
your reflection was so much better
than mine
and I was alone in the trees by the water
I hummed a tune
and it was blue as the moon was
and it reminded me of the night
you realized
our sheets weren't good enough
oh it's never enough
nothing is ever enough
your halo was gold on the water
you are always gold
and I am always pewter
I was not good for you
you needed something as shiny
as bright and as tasteless as you
oh nothing was ever good enough
and I gave this all that I had
but according to the cold in your eyes
I was not the gold you sought
and I may be pewter
but baby...
my colors are wasted on you
and the morning sun shown gold
around your head
I made my intentions clear enough to me
but not clear enough for you
apparently
but was it ever enough anyways?
And so I watched you glow
your reflection was so much better
than mine
and I was alone in the trees by the water
I hummed a tune
and it was blue as the moon was
and it reminded me of the night
you realized
our sheets weren't good enough
oh it's never enough
nothing is ever enough
your halo was gold on the water
you are always gold
and I am always pewter
I was not good for you
you needed something as shiny
as bright and as tasteless as you
oh nothing was ever good enough
and I gave this all that I had
but according to the cold in your eyes
I was not the gold you sought
and I may be pewter
but baby...
my colors are wasted on you
