Knowledge Can Be A Terrible Thing To Have
Why does the acquisition of knowledge
breed war
quicker
than peace?
*Really a retorcial question when one contemplates knowledge
in conjunction with the human psyche.

Hmmm...certainly something to camp on and think about for days.
Excellent! I think this site should have a category for really short poems.

We should have never given the forbidden fruit to Adam. It has been all downhill since.

interesting question beautiful Teri
from a biblical standpoint access
to the tree of knowledge
caused us to be cast into an unforgiving world..
now we are charged to use it wisely
but some use it to oppress others
it is a dangerous thing in the wrong hands..
thought provoking write..

As with Sinclinations above, I understand from a biblical standpoint why mankind behaves as it does. But, when I delve deeper, searching for reasons, I find myself asking what in our nature drives one to commit horrible acts in the quest for power, money, or attention and yet another would never consider such things. The way I see it, when God cast them from the Garden of Eden, he gave us the freedom of choice between good and evil and the ability to know the difference.
Hence, my thoughts when writing the poem, the human desire to conquer, trumps the need for peace, and history proves this truth.
Thank You Brenda for stopping by and placing your thoughts. It compliments my efforts whenever you take time to do so.

Science in my view does breed war more so than peace not only for the desire to conquer but also the need to conquer.
The need to conquer is directly tied to our desire to survive which is instinctive. As populations increase the need for space and resources do so as well. Humans, like any other species will go to war in order to survive and multiply. I do not know of any living thing on earth that will not do the same. From a single cell organism to man, this holds true. Even in regard to plants or insects. It is when science/knowledge is used is connection with this need or greed, it becomes a terrible thing to have.
I see no scenario in the future that will change the progression of this. The more knowledge we gain, the more dangerous we become.
Your thoughts and insight are deeply appreciated. If you would have brought a solution, even more so. :-)

I believe knowledge has led to bloodier war more so than peace. Inventions and advances in science have been used to increase body counts or damage quicker than being used to gain peace.
So, I guess it could be considered a statement.
Though I have my thoughts, my intent here is to get people to ponder their own, for I truly believe we can not change the causes until we understand the whys.
Thank You David. I always appreciate your visits.

When used for these purposes, it is indeed a terrible thing to have.
Yet, is seems to be the first thing some look to use it for.
Thank You Dani, your comments always seem right on target.

it is not the knowledge
it is the greed
behind the acquisition
the nondetachable/inseparable
nature of us humans
an expression
some observation
kudos. many.

Yes, as in the poem, the desire for more but, also the need to survive,
to remain free or become free can make knowledge a terrible thing.
Though peace may be the desired outcome, in many instances war must be the path.
So sad life dictates the need.
My friend's appearance on my page is a most welcomed sight.

as they say
knowledge is power
the more
the better.
yes, we seek power
to break free
to get more
of everything
life/nature
is brutal
and this sensitivity of humans
to feel itself is a brutal affliction.
my friend's appearance is glowing
and hers is the most welcomed insight!

This is a really interesting question. My guess wold be sometimes more knowledge gives more power. Or that in having that knowledge, one can't understand how others can be so stupid lol. You "just want to knock some sense into them."

The poetess' pondering of the question is the intent.
So glad you have given it your attention, for answer lies within each of us.
The sight of your pen is most appreciated.

Obviously an engaging questions from a provoking poetess.
My two cents goes as such:
The acquisition of knowledge leads to the ability to compromise the positions of others. That fact leads to fear and resistance and death and war. Ignorance is easier to control, subjugate, perpetuate. Therefore ignorance is bliss because it results in a non-threatening passivity.
I continue to take the most terrible path of knowledge even though I know it is the most painful. I like to thing I'm motived by some noble force, but I could easily be a stubborn masochist.

My first thought when seeing your comment, was the enjoyment of
seeing your reappearance on the site, for your absence was noted.
I hope all is well.
Your second paragraph shoots lightening bolts of truth, the way man seems to apply the knowledge he has acquired. Though ignorance can be blissful, it has proven over and over to be our nemesis'
Poetess would be questionable, provoking acceptable, for I love kicking the cranium to see what may fall out.
"Surround me with stubborn masochists, for the light knows no better path."
Thank you for the wise words.

I am sorry to have been missed, but am glad to have a presence you are aware of. Life interferes with living.
I guess it matters from whose perspective things are taken if it is mans nemesis. Those in power breed ignorance for their gain.
Of course a cranium kicking sadist would enjoy being surrounded by stubborn masochists. ;)

Love nuggets
Ponderings...
Vulnerability, we don't like it much, humans.
Knowledge amplifies and we become deaf, blind...dumb.

That insight really cuts to the bone. It begs the followup question: does the pursuit of knowledge serve the good of the individual or all people?
