The Un-Enlisted War Part 2

Proud young teacher on a new school year
Standing at the front of the class
Dressed in her Army blues
With a smile so bright
You’d never know she’s been to Hell and back
But this is just her second-year home from Iraq/
Waiting patiently for her class to fill in
On Friday, September first/
Gives a quick wink to a little boy
She taught last year all dressed in red
So he won’t forget to
Remember Everyone Deployed/
Beside him sits little Emily Grey
But when that teacher sees Emily
Wearing her sister’s dog tags
She hasta look away/
Until over the intercom she hears “Oh, Canada” begin to play/
With tears in her eyes
The names of her comrades who Fell heavy in her heart
She raises her right hand to her head
And salutes the flag they raised/

CHORUS 1
For every Brother and Sister
Who stood beside me
And all those who have
Fought and Fell
Before me
From the
Great War to Afghanistan,
Juno Beach to Iraq,
Vietnam to the Homeland
May we
Never Forget
The oh so many that came to rest
Row upon row
In Normandy

Nine thirty second bell rings
And the young teacher
Asks Emily Grey to stay behind
When they’re alone
The teacher kneels down
And wipes little Emily’s tears away
Then she whispers softly
“I know you’re soo scared
But you swore not to tell
Because your sister,
Yeah, I can tell you really loved her
And your Mommy
Needs you to be strong
Because every night that your sister’s gone
And it feels soo wrong
Because she never got to say goodbye
But I want you to know
That its okay to cry
I know it is because

CHORUS 2
I’ve taken to the streets,
Hid in wait in the mountains high
Just trying not to think
Whether or not I was gonna die
Because I know
You don’t need an
AK-47 in Heaven
Oh no (pause)
You don’t need an AK-47
In Heaven
mmm-hmm

Lunch time comes
And while the
Kids are out to play
The young teacher
Tells her colleges she has something to say
With a timid voice
She tells the story
Of the little boy all dressed in red
And recites the words
He said to her
Then just before the lunch bell rings
She reaches down her jacket
And kisses what she holds in her hand
Then shares a piece of herself
They’ve never heard
Then she asks
For something to be done
For Emily Grey’s sister
And the father of
The little boy dressed in red
And also

CHORUS 3
For every Brother and Sister
Who stood beside me
And all those who have
Fought and Fell
Before me
From the
Great War to Afghanistan,
Juno Beach to Iraq,
Vietnam to the Homeland
May we
Never Forget
The oh so many that came to rest
Row upon row
In Normandy
I’ve taken to the streets,
Hid in wait in the mountains high
Just trying not to think
Whether or not I was gonna die
Because I know
You don’t need an
AK-47 in Heaven
Oh no (pause)
You don’t need an AK-47
In Heaven
mmm-hmm
