Very beautiful! Did you really originally write this in 1983?  

Yes, I was very active at that time. I have been putting dates on many of the older poems as I have a very real sense of a change in my writing style and that many of my earlier poems were not as good as my more recently written works. Maybe it's just my perspective, as I have gotten many positive comments on my older poems here and on another site I post on, but maybe it's because they are simpler. I think the older I have gotten, the more complex my thoughts have become. In any case, I am glad you like this poem. 20 was really not a good time for me and I think that is why I wrote so many poems at that time. In a way, it was a good thing for my writing, as I wrote so many poems about being miserable, I got better at it and it probably saved my life. I tossed out more than I saved, as many of them were gawd awful, but the ones I saved I thought were ok. I had only been writing for a couple of years at that point and I can tell from the lack of imagery and metaphor. I still don't get too crazy with those things, I feel that a lot of poems suffer from forcing the same old cliche lines that I want to avoid it. Rhyming can be the same and I read alot of forced rhymes that make my head spin. Rhyming is an art, they have to be far enough apart and smart enough not to sound like sing-songy nursery rhymes. When I was 20, I think I forced a lot of those rhymes. Sometimes i wish I could send my books back in time to myself when I was 18 or 19 so I could see how my style would develop. I wonder if it would matter? Maybe it would scare the Hell out of me, to see how I turned out 30 years later. Then again, if I were 20 with over 200 poems, I might get published by a real publisher and my life would be very different than today. Dream dream dream, dadreeaaeeeaaeeem...

See what I mean, seems like other people like them even more than I do. I love my poems because I wrote them, they are my children, all I have to pass on after I am gone, so when people write comments like this, it makes me feel very good inside. Thank you Crim!

Such a beautiful and moving poem... it hit me hard. I know what it's like to be in that position.

now see what happens, good things come in threes, so now I will have to go dig up some other old poems from the archives and see if the trend continues. Well, not for another 5 hours and 20 minutes anyway. Hmmm, I will be sleeping then. Looks like noon time or thereabouts.
