The Other Side of Darkness
What is the other side of darkness?
I know what you’re thinking
The other side of darkness
Is ‘lightness’: don’t be so stupid
That’s not even a proper word
And don’t try to be smart and say ‘light’
Because that’s not the answer either
You’ve got one more guess
I even know what your answer
Is going to be and it’s wrong
The other side of darkness
Is ‘Daylight’, right? Wrong!
Unfortunately, you failed the test
Go to the back of the line
And try to think before speaking
The other side of darkness
Is simply ‘Utter Darkness.’
It’s a place where the dead walk
And peripheral shadows glide
A place of demons and devils
Were silent screaming screeches
Like nails down a chalkboard
You have been here before
It is easy for me to say that
Because I have seen you there
Frightened and bewildered
A little boy crying and lost
I am sorry for it was I who
Welcomed you into the
‘Deep Darkness,’ with a hug
I thought it was an act of kindness
But I was wrong, so wrong
The deep darkness is just a
Black fog that can envelope
Even in the daylight hours
It only exists in our heads
It seems trauma of any kind
Makes it grow and grow
Once it reaches 51 percent
You become finely tuned
To the echo of deep darkness
Your eyes become fully open
Your ears can hear everything
You can see and hear much more
The floating shadows callout
You are inside their presence
You see and feel what they can
You are in a real state of grace
A pre-death enlightenment
Demons hasten to your side
They attempt to make deals
With you in smoke filled rooms
The ghosts of the dead can’t wait
To encourage you to make the deal
They are jealous of your life force
You feel all the pain and sadness
Ever experienced on the planet
Suddenly you are part of the
Deep Darkness; you become one
All is strangely silent now
But a passing shadow tells me
The quiet is only temporary
A mark off respect and grief
“Who is dead?” I nervously ask
“You are David, you are.”
My silent scream starts
I know it will never end
