Yesterday's rice, today's supper
the bunds of the mind
does not stop with the sights
of the yellow blaze of midday sun
reflections on shiny banana leaves
images of dew long dried, or fallen on puddles left
by this morning's drizzle
nor those yesteryears' rose tinted memories
stop with the contemplation of dusts
stirred by a gentle breeze
or a flower plucked and thrown away
into a fast moving brook
just to see if it could float
sweat that trickled down the brow
they are not forgotten trivias
when labour was difficult on hardened soil
or the paddy died on its rotting stalks
they stayed pasted on sigh
of hunger shored by growling stomach
and the one who remembers stand
on shifting sand
tomorrow is never guaranteed
today as firm as one can stand
yesterday abundance in lessons
building the one who stands today.
