August Thoughts
The pictures are slipping
From their rusty hooks in the walls
Melting into sagging paint
Stained in dingy residue;
Platelets of greasy age
Against the slime of timid time,
A brutal, merciless honesty
Typically concealed beneath layers
Of unrequited nostalgia
Something has been silenced inside me
Before it had a chance to scream
And now it all seems so far away
Twice removed by ennui's apathy
Winter nights lie behind
Autumn's inevitable fall
After winds of change
Change fading shades
Of a cornucopia of October's hues
Into crumbling dust of brown and gray
Ominous calmness
Settles restlessly, at best
As storm clouds gather
Along September's edge
Tomorrow always holds something new
Sunshine swallows the morning dew
A crust of snow will again cover the old
The stars always get shrouded with mosaic clouds and blue
From their rusty hooks in the walls
Melting into sagging paint
Stained in dingy residue;
Platelets of greasy age
Against the slime of timid time,
A brutal, merciless honesty
Typically concealed beneath layers
Of unrequited nostalgia
Something has been silenced inside me
Before it had a chance to scream
And now it all seems so far away
Twice removed by ennui's apathy
Winter nights lie behind
Autumn's inevitable fall
After winds of change
Change fading shades
Of a cornucopia of October's hues
Into crumbling dust of brown and gray
Ominous calmness
Settles restlessly, at best
As storm clouds gather
Along September's edge
Tomorrow always holds something new
Sunshine swallows the morning dew
A crust of snow will again cover the old
The stars always get shrouded with mosaic clouds and blue
