The Love Affair of Tad and Elizabeth
THE LOVE AFFAIR OF TAD AND ELIZABETH-Preview-The First 5 Days
Preface
Like many people, I followed closely the alleged kidnapping of 15 -year-old Elizabeth Thomas by her former Tennessee teacher,Tad Cummins.I was wondering if it would take a tragic turn like many such abductions.
But after the pair was apprehended- Elizabeth unharmed, both surrendering peaceably to the authorities-I realized there was something different here: an unusual and beautiful love story that couldn't have unfolded in any other manner.
It was then I began to write, "The Love Affair of Tad and Elizabeth" I envisioned it as a different slant to the sexual hysteria and media blitz that accompanied the aftermath of the alleged .kidnapping .
The story is part fiction and part fact. composed of 38 brief chapters or segments encapsulating the essence of each of the 38 days the pair was on the run.
It is entirely unauthorized and should be labeled a creative documentary.

DAY 1 -THE GETAWAY
She was waiting in front of Shoney's restaurant. He picked her up in the Nissan Rogue.
They headed for Alabama.
Her kisses diving into into his goatee made him giggle like he hadn't giggled for over forty years;. He was a boy again.
She noticed his hand--. he had kept his promise - no wedding ring.
Later that night at a Motel 6 in Athens,Alabama- endless kissing. Itst went on and on Nothing but kisses.Deep deep kisses as if these lovers were the only beings in existence and were feeding off each other with the knowledge of that miracle, until , both still clothed, he entered her for the first time.
Both of their climaxes coincided, fully spent and satisfying bringing a much needed sleep wherein they held and cradled one another in supreme oneness...
till dawn's early light edged the windows and opened their eyes upon a true lovers' disheveled sight.
DAY 2 - VISITING THE ZOO
"Live for the moment, that's what animals teach us," Tad said.
The lovers were watching chimps swinging from tree to tree in a jungle-like setting.
"But they're not free.They're in a zoo,"Elizabeth said.
"Well, I see your point, but they might have had a worse fate in the wild.
The lovers were sharing a malted milk--one straw.
They moved on towards the tigers and the bear caves. Then on towards a swan park.in this small zoo not far from their motel.
"You're a swan." Tad said. " Your beauty ,your grace, in the way you move."
They lingered in the shadow of a tall tree away from the people walking along the far pathway. She bent back in his arms gazing up at him as he gazed down at her. And . they kissed. Then looked at each other again as before. They embraced tightly. He drew away slightly to gaze into her beautiful hazel eyes, and said,"I could swim for a thousand miles in the oceans of your eyes and never reach the other side, Mary Catherine Elizabeth Thomas,"
calling her by her full name, feeling how his life was never going to be the same.
DAY 3-Enid, Oklahoma
After a brief stopover at a McDonalds they arrived in Enid, Oklahoma near dawn(traveling by night now to lssen bdi g seen) and egistered as man and wife at another Motel 6.
They slept till noon then walked to a nearby park.
The day was like spring: birds singing, petals scuttling through breezes , butterflies landing on a flower here and there, girls walking together in twos . boys tossing balls. Those girls' calves!
In his teens how smitten was he with the calves of girls! Loved to watch how the succulent taut flesh strained so temptingly as the girls walked about in their black flats. It was what at first attracted him to his wife, Jill. Today the enchantments of this park in Oklahoma reminded him of the Love-Ins he had attended long ago in Maury County, Tennessee.
A stemless daisy whirled down the grass till Elizabeth chased after it, taking a bite and offering the rest to Tad.
"They're not poisonous," she said, as Tad chewed pleasantly. "I learned that in your class."
They took a seat on a bench.
"I didn't know you ate them. Do you?"
"I belong to another century. A 15th century peasant girl."
"A pastoral maiden?" Tad asked.
"Exactly."
"And in the modern age, a survivor.."
"Yes. With your help."
Their hands joined.
After a few minutes, Elizabeth spoke softly... "My mother is an evil person. Some people are born evil, you know? All those beatings, the throwing me down the basement stairs, my being locked down there in the cold dungeon for hours, just because I hadn't cleaned my room or had yelled at one of my sisters. And that time I had to wear braces because she smashed in my teeth so badly. "
Enough. No need to dwell on that now, Tad said.
They rose from the bench. Elizabeth started turning somersaults.
He watched this beautiful, graceful, sometimes awkward sylph of a girl who was all his and thought she's almost too young to be called Liz.
DAY 4-TAD EXPLAINS WHY HE IDOLIZES HIS GOATEE .
He is pacing a bit, she is seated on the edge of bed,all ears.
"It's something only a man can grow, just as only a woman can menstruate.
Viva la difference! You might say it's a badge of manhood.
"I wonder sometimes how you'd look without it."
"I could always shave it off."
""How then could The Beast protect Beauty if he lost all that manly fur?"
"Which reminds me," Tad said,"We should start changing our appearance. We should buy some hair dye to change your blond to black, sweetheart."
"Ok."
"Bear with The Beast. A little sacrifice of his fur is in order to better protect Beauty.
.
"I love you," Elizabeth said.
They tried not to voice their fears of being tracked and caught.
It was a kind of silent etiquette, though they were full of unspoken plans like Romeo and Juliet.
DAY 5-WALTZING IN VIENNA
They both woke up at the same instant together.
"I had a dream", Elizabeth exclaimed," We were waltzing in Vienna-the old country. Austria? . Big ballroom with those hanging chandeliers and..."
Tad took her hand, pulling her up out of bed holding her and dancing with her as he sang "Da da da da da, da da da da... that was no dream we ARE in Vienna and we ARE waltzing. Watch your head-that chandelier."
"What?" She backed, glanced at the ceiling, then laughed and laughed," Oh darling you're so funny. You scared me!" She pressed tighter against him, imagining how a love-struck woman might have done in the glamorous, fre-spirited times of old Vienna-.19th century.
Late last night they arrived in a small town in Missouri called Vienna. It sparked many romantic fantasies in Tad's mind.
Earlier at a nearby town, at a Walmart, he bought a Samsung tablet to keep track of the authorities' whereabouts. He discovered they were way off.
Now in the make believe ballroom in a cheap motel, as Tad and Elizabeth waltzed on and on,
her teacher's early kisses once so chaste calming her anxieties, were now enflaming her being with full carnal taste.
--new days to be added soon--
