Knight-fall
An early evening storm has blown the afternoon sun from the sky
As the clouds dissipate along the horizon an orange globe falls
While darkness creeps up the other side of the mist covered air
The cold kiss of night sends shivers across my naked dripping flesh
Standing alone where your shadow fell into the dirt beneath my feet
I knew that the rising Moon was not coming up to enlighten my life
It just wanted to show I'd be on my own as falling stars burned holes in the night
Though the heavens sparkled with suns a billion light-years over my head
Their light was too dim to expose the foolish high hopes I was clinging on to
As flickers of lightning set with the Sun, silently remind me you are gone with the wind
