TINPAN
Having been evicted from home
And my girlfriend pursuing other avenues
Let me see where this path goes
Its hedgerow's fine shade and what's to lose
And the trees laden with sweet fruit
Are we born to wander
And wonder where love is
The way winds grievous mountains
Climbs sheep tracks to the constellations
As if the universe was expanding
Rather than here all at once one big soup
Bubbling infinitely interdimensionally
Stirred by my open hand happily waving
As if goodbye
Was just a word
The gold lining of my tweed is torn
Let's rip it out it will make a jolly scarf
This biscuit tin dustbin lid tin can
Make timpani in Tin Pan Alley sally forth
My foot step echo echoes my life
As anxious as if the echo was fading
As if an echo ever fades
As if it's ripples ever end
I saw a rock band at the back of a van
I grabbed a snare drum and sang
The band thought I was with the place
The place thought I'm in the band
With me and the band on stage dancing
So tell me about love
Tell me as if you know
Say as if you know
How when it rains
Don't say how does it rain
Just say how good it is
And my girlfriend pursuing other avenues
Let me see where this path goes
Its hedgerow's fine shade and what's to lose
And the trees laden with sweet fruit
Are we born to wander
And wonder where love is
The way winds grievous mountains
Climbs sheep tracks to the constellations
As if the universe was expanding
Rather than here all at once one big soup
