Food for Thought
A starter of two deep breaths
And a cough to clear the throat
A sorbet of assured failure
To cleanse the palate
A fitting fish course
Fishing for complements
A succulent main course of
Winking, blinking and stinking
A full bodied whine
You can’t beat a good whine
Desert of anger and fear
Can’t help myself: I scream
Chat up lines for crazy people
Cheese and crackers
Then my favourite nightcap
Cool cotton, difficult to swallow
This dietary advice
Given by a fat dietician
The weight is falling off
I am fading away to a mountain
A restricted life
Is no life at all
Pass the doughnuts

I read some somewhere that a kebab
can take ten minutes off your life
and yet it takes a good twenty minutes
in the queue before you're served,
so I'm confused
am I ten minutes up
or ten minutes down ...

well you've got me stumped but I would point out that if it is 10 minutes loss then those are the ten minutes at the shitty end :-)

I love the fact that "Food for Thought" was literally food and a poem about food... well executed, David
"Can’t help myself: I scream" > this line made me smile (as did the rest of your poem)

In reading this it felt as if this is the repeated daily menu selections...definitely not those which truly make the palate water...I will also always go for that damned doughnut...clever ink indeed...

"Pass the doughnuts"
Indeed. Everyone dies but not everyone truly lives. I admire your sardonic sense of humor
