Story of a Survivor

In your dreams I heard you cry
You would never utter a reason why
The reflection of your aura revealed
That you had been suffering and needed time to heal

Sometimes you would cover your face at dinner
It was then made evident that he was a beater
I was only a child, but I remember the screams
I was confused about the incident and the beatings in between

Blow after hit and slapped before kicked
How could he love you inflicting lick after lick
Screaming and hollering this abuse had to end
Emergency plan put into action
You would tell us when

Fears restricted you away from freedom's door
But you raised seven reasons that you needed to live for
You exemplified bravery and are labeled a soul survivor
You survived for your children and have stood a great warrior

As I still look back, I may never understand
Why you endured, for so long a verbally abusive hand
All I do know is that you made a sacrifice
To live for your children for the rest of your life
