Catholic, my mother
Believed in God
Married a man
With a previous wife
I was baptised differently
I was raised
With religion
But never taught faith
Believing unworthy
Impious incidentally
Flimsy at best
My religious belief
Why condemned
For another’s sin
Agnostic consequently
My divergence
Chose not to presume
Any one at fault
Yet doubts unveiled
My dichotomy
A paradox seen
Disconnected from church
Truth was sought
I pledged no alliance
Finding spirituality
No specific doctrine
Reigns my devotion
But willingness to believe
In a greater power
With sincerity
Believed in God

Mel, you express so well your struggles with religion and your journey to sprituality. I thought the passage below to be particularly poignant.

Thank you lovely. I was only ever taught facts, not how to believe. Thankfully, I found that on my own but it did not come easily. Honoured by RL:)

such a beautiful write about a common struggle - I believed until I reached the age of reason and logic. My struggle was very similar, we seem to have reached different conclusions :-)

ORIGINAL JOY
We were born in original joy …
trust religion to turn it into original sin
where many are damned
and few get in.

Those 4 lines are fantastic! They say quite a lot. The first line reminded me of a quote... "You were born a child of life's wonderful secret, You return to the beauty you have always been."- Aberjhani Organised religion was always difficult for me. I just could not wrap my head around one being right and all others wrong. But I am positive there is something in the universe far bigger than me:)
